Tennessee expected to start MacIntyre at Arkansas

No. 15 Tennessee (4-1, 1-1 SEC) is expected to start sophomore George MacIntyre for the first time in his career when the Volunteers visit Arkansas (2-3, 0-2 SEC) on Saturday in Fayetteville. MacIntyre replaced freshman Faizon Brandon at halftime of a 24-14 win over Auburn, going 8 of 10 for 86 yards after Brandon was 3 of 8 for 0 yards and one interception. Brandon started the first five games, hurt his shoulder late in the Sept. 26 loss to then-No. 1 Texas where he was sacked 10 times, and could not finish against Auburn. Coach Josh Heupel said Monday the choice was still open, saying MacIntyre "came in, did some really good things" and Brandon "wasn't at his best" while injured; reports Tuesday said MacIntyre would start. Heupel said Brandon was a good teammate who realized he was not at his best. DeSean Bishop ran for 220 yards and three touchdowns against Auburn. Arkansas coach Ryan Silverfield said whichever Tennessee quarterback plays, they are "very, very capable." Arkansas fell 34-7 to Texas A&M, outgained 401-204, in its 13th straight conference loss. Chris Marshall has 549 yards on 35 receptions, second in the SEC. Tennessee leads the all-time series 14-7. Whether MacIntyre keeps the job after this week remains unresolved.
