Trump Claims Russia-Ukraine Energy Strike Agreement

President Donald Trump claimed that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop striking each other’s energy infrastructure, but neither side initially confirmed the arrangement. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine would reciprocate only if Russia genuinely halted attacks on Ukraine’s electricity network, energy facilities, critical infrastructure and supply routes, with reliable guarantees from international partners. Trump had criticized Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries, saying they were worsening global diesel shortages, while reports attributed the fuel-price surge primarily to disruptions linked to the war involving Iran, the Strait of Hormuz and broader supply constraints. Despite the call for restraint, Ukrainian drones reportedly struck Russia’s Syzran oil refinery, causing industrial damage and shattered windows, and the response and durability of any ceasefire remained uncertain after previous limited agreements collapsed.
