Russia leaves door open to Trump-Putin-Xi summit, no agenda set yet

Russia has left open the possibility of a first trilateral meeting between President Vladimir Putin, current President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, but officials say formal preparations have not begun. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the parties must first agree on the agenda, substance and expected outcomes. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said the meeting could potentially take place during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen, China, in November, though organizing it would be the responsibility of the summit’s hosts. The Kremlin is also considering separate meetings between Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, and possibly Trump. Russian officials said that even without concrete agreements, a leaders’ meeting could carry political significance and send important signals.
