Isaias Brings Flooding, Outages Across Southeast
Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, on Friday night as a Category 2 storm with winds near 105 mph, then rapidly weakened to a post-tropical system as it moved inland. It left hundreds of thousands of customers without electricity across Florida, Alabama and Georgia; outages in Alabama exceeded 300,000 at their peak, and crews continued repairs Saturday amid extensive tree and power-line damage. Flooding, storm surge, debris and damaged roads were reported, while forecasters warned of continued heavy rain, flash flooding, strong winds and possible tornadoes across the Southeast. Officials urged residents to avoid floodwater and downed power lines as emergency and utility crews assessed damage and restored service. Federal emergency declarations were approved for Florida and Alabama.
