Category 3 Nolo Threatens Remote Pacific Atolls
Live storm radar — Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, Pacific Ocean
Hurricane Nolo re-intensified into a Category 3 storm with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph as it moved west across the Pacific, south of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. A tropical storm warning covered part of the remote Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, where forecasters warned that surf could inundate some low-lying atolls; no populated islands were expected to be threatened. Nolo, which had weakened after passing near Hawaii and later regained hurricane strength, was forecast to cross the International Date Line on Sunday.
