Off-duty ICE agent shot, held in Fresno

Early Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, Fresno police responded around 3:19 a.m. to 911 calls and a ShotSpotter alert for one gunshot near East Dudley Avenue and North Broadway Street. Officers found 32-year-old David Gonzalez of Texas, an off-duty ICE agent, in handcuffs with a gunshot wound to the midsection. Police say a resident arrived home and found Gonzalez sleeping on her front lawn. She notified her 72-year-old father, who went outside and told Gonzalez to leave. When Gonzalez woke, he appeared intoxicated and agitated, police said. He allegedly assaulted the father, forcing him to the ground, and attacked the daughter when she intervened. Fearing for their safety, the father fired one shot. The daughter's boyfriend, an off-duty police officer, then handcuffed Gonzalez. Gonzalez was taken by ambulance for treatment and is in custody on felony assault charges. The homeowner is not facing criminal charges and legally possessed the firearm. ICE referred inquiries to the Fresno Police Department and said the agent was off-duty and alone. Police say the reason Gonzalez was in the area is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
