Multiple outlets report that President Donald Trump has floated renaming the Strait of Hormuz to the Trump Strait, framing it as part of his broader pattern of naming changes that also included Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America and Lake Ontario as Lake America. Coverage notes that, while the renaming idea has circulated on Truth Social and was amplified by White House posts, its practical effect is dubious since the Strait of Hormuz lies outside U.S. territorial control and the region remains a volatile war zone. Several articles emphasize that Trump’s proposal comes amid ongoing conflict with Iran and recent strikes around the Strait, complicating any real-world implications of a name change. Commentators and satire pieces alike question feasibility, legality, and the symbolism of such a rename given the strategic and geopolitical stakes. The reporting also situates the renaming chatter within a broader pattern of Trump championing high-visibility branding for his actions and projects, regardless of international consensus. Overall, the coverage frames the Trump Strait notion as a provocative, largely rhetorical move with unclear practical consequences amid ongoing Middle East tensions.

Too bad Trump isn’t serious about actually doing something that benefits America and its citizens. Changing names of bodies of water does nothing to lower the national debt, lower the cost of living, lower gas prices, hold corrupt politicians accountable or or eliminate government waste found by DOGE. But what would you expect from a deep state operative. Just more pageantry to keep people deceived.
Renaming a strait you don't control isn't diplomacy, it's just talking to yourself louder.
