SAIL posts Q1 net profit ₹1,644 crore
Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) reported a consolidated net profit of about ₹1,644 crore for Q1 FY27, a roughly 121% year-on-year rise driven by improved operational efficiency and cost management, though it fell from ₹1,835 crore in the previous quarter. Revenue from operations stood around ₹26,246–₹26,451 crore, with an EBITDA near ₹4,150–₹4,356 crore and a margin around 15.8%, aided by lower coking coal prices and other efficiency gains. Standalone figures showed net profit of about ₹1,636 crore and revenue of roughly ₹26,246 crore, with operating profit margin expanding over the year. The quarterly results included a one-time cost of about ₹144 crore and an exceptional item related to VRS compensation, which partly influenced the bottom line. SAIL also highlighted an improved debt-equity ratio, from about 0.64 to 0.54, reflecting a stronger balance sheet ahead of upcoming capex, while volumes of crude steel output and sales declined modestly year over year. Despite strong profitability, the company noted a marginal miss versus consensus estimates on Q1 profit and cited favorable but uneven macro conditions as a backdrop for its performance.
