Dolly Parton's Final Recording to Close U2 Album

U2 will release *Carnaval de Luz*, its first full-length album of new material in nine years, on Nov. 13, as the band marks its 50th anniversary. The 12-track album, produced by Jacknife Lee, follows the surprise EPs *Days of Ash* and *Easter Lily* and completes a sequence linked to Lent, Easter and Carnival. It closes with “Torn,” a duet between Bono and Dolly Parton that was Parton’s final recorded vocal performance; she recorded it in June while ill, two months before her death at 80, and approved the finished mix. Parton suggested the song after declining Bono’s idea for an Irish folk-inspired collaboration, and Bono and Johnny McDaid reshaped its lyrics around a mother watching her family fracture. The track also features Daniel Lanois on pedal steel, while Brian Eno, Martin Garrix and other longtime and new collaborators worked on the album.
