Swatting sends armed police to Cornell Jane Doe’s family home
A woman identified as Jane Doe, who alleges that seven former Cornell fraternity members drugged and sexually assaulted her in 2024, was targeted in a swatting call at her parents’ home after filing a civil lawsuit against Cornell and others; the men deny wrongdoing, and none has been criminally charged. On Tuesday, a false emergency call claiming a man had killed family members brought armed police, who stopped her brother and boyfriend and confronted her father; no one was injured, and police and the FBI are investigating. Doe’s attorney says the family has also faced threats and doxxing, and that Doe is now afraid to leave the home. The county district attorney has reopened the investigation, oversight has been transferred to the state attorney general, and Cornell has agreed to an independent review of its handling of sexual misconduct reports.
