Washington Man Charged in Tumbler Ridge Shooting Plot

U.S. authorities arrested Washington state resident James Cody Bryant, 30, and charged him with conspiring to murder people in a foreign country in connection with the February 10, 2026, shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. Prosecutors allege Bryant maintained frequent online contact with shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar, provided tactical advice and money, helped plan the attack, and agreed to livestream it; the broadcast ultimately failed. Investigators allege Bryant remained in contact on the day of the attack, after Van Rootselaar told him she had killed two family members and was heading to the school, where she killed six more people before dying. The case developed from information Discord shared with Canadian police, and U.S. and Canadian authorities continue to investigate. The charge carries a possible life sentence.
