US adds seventh moment of silence for 25th 9/11 anniversary

The United States and diplomatic missions abroad marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, honoring the 2,977 people killed and the first responders, survivors and recovery workers whose lives were changed. Families gathered at New York’s 9/11 Memorial for the annual reading of victims’ names, while President Donald Trump, public officials, first responders and military members attended the commemoration. Organizers added a seventh moment of silence to recognize people who have died from illnesses and injuries linked to toxic exposure after the attacks. U.S. embassies in Albania and Fiji emphasized American resilience, international solidarity and the sacrifices of emergency workers, military personnel and peacekeepers, noting that victims came from more than 90 countries. The ceremonies also honored Fijian service members who later died while serving abroad and renewed calls to preserve the history and lessons of 9/11 for future generations.
