Third Polish school attack in week injures three
A 21-year-old woman was arrested after using a dangerous object to attack a 17-year-old girl at an educational institution in Warsaw, injuring three people aged 17, 17 and 24. The girl's injuries were not life-threatening. Two other women, 17 and 24, had come to submit enrollment documents. Police said the suspect had studied there and did not know the victims. It was the third Polish school attack in less than a week. On Wednesday a 19-year-old student injured nine people at a vocational school in Ostrołęka. On Thursday a 15-year-old entered a primary school in Leszczydół-Nowiny, north of Warsaw; a 37-year-old custodian died and two others were wounded. Thousands of officers then visited schools nationwide and 76 people were detained. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said there is no room for compromise on the safety of Polish children and peace in schools. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said a 17-year-old was detained in Sierpc after allegedly stating on school grounds that he planned to do something dangerous and intended to harm someone. A Warsaw police spokesperson could not confirm whether the capital attack was linked to the earlier ones. Local media, citing police, reported possible ties to an internet challenge; that remains unconfirmed. Some outlets called the incidents knife attacks while police described a dangerous object in the Warsaw case.
