Philadelphia Officer Killed in West Philadelphia Shooting
A gunman ambushed two Philadelphia police officers early Saturday after they responded to a report of a person with a gun on North 52nd Street in West Philadelphia. Officer Shane Seiber, 40, a 10-year department veteran and father of two, died at the hospital; his 33-year-old partner, a father of five, was seriously wounded and later reported in stable condition. Police said the suspect fled, fired at additional officers without hitting them, and hid in a tree before being taken into custody by SWAT. Investigators recovered two handguns and a shotgun, including a handgun belonging to one of the wounded officers. Authorities had not publicly identified the suspect or announced charges in the reports provided, and city officials praised the officers and thanked first responders and hospital staff.
