Supreme Court expected to hear immigration, gun cases
The Supreme Court’s new term is set to address major disputes involving civil rights, federal-state authority, climate and voting rights, gun regulations, immigration, and education. Justices have agreed to hear challenges related to the Trump administration’s immigration policies, including whether immigrants can be sent to third countries and whether certain people facing deportation must receive bond hearings. The education docket includes a dispute over whether religious preschools participating in a public preschool program must follow nondiscrimination requirements, as well as a case brought by University of Georgia employees alleging sex discrimination. Additional challenges to the administration’s spending and tariff policies could reach the court, while its expanding emergency docket may bring other consequential cases before the justices on an accelerated schedule.
