Trump blames France protests on migration, Islam
Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that what is happening in France is "nothing less than out of control mass migration" and "about Islam wanting to take over a once great Country," not schools. High school blockades began in September over teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms, deteriorating buildings, and a 2027 budget limiting education spending increases to 1.7% excluding teacher pensions. On Oct. 6, a national day of action brought marches across France. Authorities estimated about 256,000 people; organizers about 450,000. Scale reports conflict. Human Events cited over 6,100 arrested, 40 cities, and more than 2,000 schools closed. Kurdistan24 reported more than 5,000 arrested. El Constitucional listed 6,059 arrested and injuries to 215 students, 85 teachers, and 715 police. A wire summary noted damage at 24 schools and 78 education staff hurt. Geffray on Oct. 2 reported 65 injured staff and about 170 wounded students. Sebastien Lecornu, called prime minister in Human Events, said there is "no room for tolerance of violence" and that burning a high school does not improve buildings. Michael Shellenberger said France already spends far more per student than migrants' origin countries. Students cite education conditions; Trump rejects that frame.
