Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has declared Sept. 10, 2026, “Charlie Kirk Day,” one year after Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University. Cox and other officials and memorial organizers said the commemoration should honor Kirk’s advocacy of open debate while rejecting political violence. Kirk’s organization, supporters and friends are holding events highlighting his influence on young conservatives, campus-debate tours and the political movement he built. Prosecutors allege that 23-year-old Tyler James Robinson was the lone gunman and that political disagreement motivated the attack; Robinson has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and other charges and is scheduled to stand trial, potentially facing the death penalty if convicted. A Utah judge has allowed the aggravated-murder charge to proceed, while publicly released evidence has not substantiated claims of accomplices, a second shooter or broader political conspiracies.
