77-year-old grandparents accused of killing NYT executive son-in-law
Police say a 77-year-old couple fatally shot their son-in-law, New York Times executive Jonathan McKinsey, in a Dublin parking lot; court papers note his estranged wife alleged abuse.

The TikTok account ABC World News Tonight posted a video under this title: "Two 77-year-old grandparents are accused of shooting and killing their son-in-law — a New York Times executive — outside San Francisco. Court documents show his estranged wife alleged incidents of domestic violence and child abuse. Trevor Ault reports."
ABC News used a parallel headline the same day: "Elderly grandparents accused of killing NYT executive son-in-law, police say." Its short description repeated the ages, the New York Times link and the court-document reference to the estranged wife.
Local reporting filled in the place and the names. ABC7 reporter Suzanne Phan wrote Monday, September 28, 2026, that police say a 77-year-old couple is accused of shooting and killing their son-in-law Saturday afternoon in a parking lot near a popular sports complex in Dublin, California. According to police, the victim was 40-year-old Jonathan McKinsey of Dublin. He was fatally shot in the parking lot of Dublin Sports Grounds, about a block from the police department. The suspects are a husband and wife, both 77 years old. They were taken into custody.
Phan’s report said KGO, the ABC San Francisco affiliate, spoke with several people who saw what happened. Assad Razawi said he was leaving Sahara Market on Dublin Boulevard when he heard gunshots coming from the Dublin Sports Grounds parking lot. Razawi said he then saw the victim collapse.
"I saw the guy drop to the floor: head bloody and chest bloody," Assad Razawi said.
He told interviewers he also saw two people, later identified as the suspects, leaving the area. His daughter, Mal Razawi, described the rest of her father’s account. "He said the man and woman and walking together and they casually walk away from the shooting," she said.
Police said a sergeant who was driving nearby saw a man lying on the ground. Authorities said the victim had been shot several times. Officers responding to the scene located the two suspects in a black sedan at a nearby intersection, police said. A witness captured a photograph showing the male suspect in handcuffs. Investigators later identified the suspects as McKinsey’s in-laws. The couple is being held at Santa Rita Jail.
