BYRON DONALDS GOT COOKED AT FAMU! Black Students Grill Him, Roland Brings the Receipts

Byron Donalds went to Florida A&M University, where students pressed him on policy. Then Donalds told Black voters to “stop moving like a monolith” and asked whether Democrats had delivered. Roland Martin challenged the premise, the history behind it, and Donalds’ own political record and alliances. The Republican Florida gubernatorial candidate faced students asking about education, gun rights, higher education, diversity policies, immigration enforcement and political participation. During the town hall, Donalds told the audience to “stop moving like a monolith.” He questioned Black voters’ longstanding support for Democrats, asking: “You’ve been faithful to that party. Have they been faithful to you?” and “Have they delivered?” Roland Martin takes that argument head-on. First, Roland demands specifics: What promises? What policies? What exactly is Donalds claiming Democrats failed to deliver? Roland then disputes Donalds’ historical framing and walks through decades of Black electoral decision-making. His argument: Black voters have repeatedly evaluated candidates strategically rather than blindly following a political party, prominent Black leaders or Black candidates. He points to the 2020 Democratic primary, Jesse Jackson’s presidential campaigns and Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign while discussing how Black voters have weighed voting rights, civil rights, health care, education, foreign policy and the ability of candidates to win national elections. “The most astute voters in America are African-Americans,” Roland says. “Black folks ain’t stupid,” he says, invoking Ella Baker and SNCC to argue that Black political intelligence has never depended on formal education, wealth or elite status. Then Roland issues Donalds a direct challenge: “Byron, come talk to Black people.” Roland says RMU will contact Donalds’ congressional and campaign offices and invites him onto the show to defend his claims and answer questions about policies affecting Black communities. #RolandMartinUnfiltered #BlackStarNetwork #ByronDonalds #FAMU #HBCU #BlackVoters Black Star Network Partner: Chapter Chapter and its affiliates are not connected with or endorsed by any government entity or the federal Medicare program.
