Trump Says He Uses AI, Refuses Details

Aboard Air Force One, President Donald Trump told reporters he uses artificial intelligence. He said AI can be used “for a lot of things,” then added, “I don’t want to tell you that.” The exchange came as he argued the United States must outpace China. In a Truth Social post reported by Reuters on Sept. 14, Trump dismissed safety warnings as a “SICK conspiracy” against AI and data centers that only China would welcome. He wrote that the only needed control is a “STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT,” that Washington already holds “tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power” over the firms, and that his administration had stopped AI figures such as Anthropic’s Dario Amodei from doing bad or potentially bad things. Amodei’s essay “We Must Pace the Frontier” drew support from Sam Altman and Elon Musk, who said “Dario is right.” AI-related stocks fell sharply Monday after industry leaders urged slower development; Microsoft unveiled a draft AI code of conduct the same day. China’s Foreign Ministry and Global Times rejected Amodei’s call to restrict China’s AI access. Trump’s June 2 executive order created a voluntary path for up to 30 days of early government access to certain frontier models, barred mandatory licensing, and directed use of existing criminal laws; a March framework asked Congress for safeguards on children, scams, national security, and electricity bills. How far any further obligations will go remains open.
