Three US Campuses Hold, Plan October 7 Memorials

Jewish campus organizations at Syracuse, the University of Florida and Penn State marked the third anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks with events honoring those killed and supporting remembrance and reflection. Syracuse Hillel’s gathering featured prayers, student accounts of victims’ lives and candle lighting, while UF Hillel and Chabad brought students and community members together for a memorial. Penn State Hillel organized a week of programming, including a conversation with released hostage Omer Shem Tov, a human-stories exhibit, activities centered on victims’ favorite recipes, and opportunities to share memories and light candles. Penn State events also included access to therapists and a baking activity honoring Itay Chen.
