Texas Probes Camp Mystic Deaths for Manslaughter

Camp Mystic is the focus of a Texas Rangers criminal investigation into the July 4, 2025, flooding that killed 25 campers, two teenage counselors and camp owner Richard Eastland. Search warrants seek electronic records from camp owners, executives and staff to determine what they knew about the flood threat, how they communicated and why evacuation efforts were not carried out sooner. Investigators allege the camp lacked adequate emergency plans, drills, training and adult supervision, and failed to move children from low-lying cabins despite monitoring flood warnings. The affidavits identify potential offenses including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, child abandonment or endangerment, injury to a child and deadly conduct, though no charges have been filed.
