Three-Homer Spence Keeps Astros Tied Atop AL West

Lucas Spence hit three home runs and drove in five runs, going 3-for-4, as the Houston Astros beat the Athletics 7-5 on Sept. 24, 2026, in West Sacramento, Calif. Called up the day before, he hit a go-ahead 387-foot solo homer in the seventh for a 5-4 lead and another solo shot in the ninth to make it 7-5. Sarah Langs of MLB.com said he became the third player in MLB history to hit his first three career home runs in one game, joining Joshua Baez (Aug. 15, 2026) and Seby Zavala (July 31, 2021). Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes also homered. Jeff McNeil's three-run homer tied it in the third, and Zack Gelof's ensuing solo shot gave the Athletics a 4-3 lead. Gelof homered again in the eighth. Houston (79-80) stayed tied with the Texas Rangers atop the AL West with three games left and holds the 9-4 head-to-head tiebreaker. CBS Sports placed Spence's first career homer in the second inning; Clutch Points said a three-run homer opened first-inning scoring.
