The Chicago White Sox placed right-hander Luis Castillo on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement and recalled right-hander Tyler Davis from Triple-A Charlotte. Chicago needed one win or a Texas Rangers loss to qualify for the postseason. Castillo posted an 8.42 ERA in nine appearances for the White Sox after arriving from Seattle at the trade deadline, including a 13.50 ERA in three relief outings; his injury put his postseason availability in doubt. Davis returned to the major-league roster after making 29 relief appearances for Chicago earlier this season.
