Ronaldo, 41, Selected for Portugal Nations League Squad

Jorge Jesus named Cristiano Ronaldo in his first 25-man Portugal squad. Ronaldo, 41, has 146 goals in 233 Portugal appearances and 979 career goals, 21 short of 1,000. Jesus coached him at Al-Nassr to a Saudi Pro League title and replaced Roberto Martinez in July after Portugal's 1-0 World Cup round-of-16 loss to Spain. Defending 2025 Nations League champions after beating Spain on penalties, Portugal faces Wales in Lisbon on September 24, Norway on September 27, Denmark on October 1, and Norway in Porto on October 4. Jesus told a press conference: "Cris is a player like any other. If he performs, he plays; if not, he doesn't. He has a different status - he has five Ballon d'Or awards - but does that factor into my decisions? No. However, the fact that he is different is." He said the past does not count, all 25 players can play, and games every three days will bring changes based on physical condition. Thirteen squad players have worked with him before. CONTESTED: No contested claims found. Playing time across the four matches is not yet set.
