JJ Gabriel Seeks Manchester United Exit
JJ Gabriel, 15, formally asked Manchester United to cancel his registration and become a free agent. He joined at 11 and cannot sign a scholarship until he turns 16 on October 6, or a professional contract until 17. He refused to train with Michael Carrick's senior squad ahead of the Brighton Carabao Cup tie, for which he was expected. Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox are in direct talks with his family. He wiped his Instagram of all images; it has over 800,000 followers. United and Premier League Under-18 Player of the Year, he scored a Youth League hat-trick as United's youngest such scorer and debuted eight minutes against Atletico Madrid in August 2026. Carrick said: "JJ is one of the boys. He's obviously got a really big talent." Lawrence said: "Well, I think the first thing in my job is not to ruin him." Cancellation under Premier League rules needs club, player and parent or carer agreement, or a binding league decision. Registration end is June 2027 per SportsView and end of season per The Nation. United have not accepted and hope to resolve it. Amorim and Wilcox gave prior reassurances. The Sun reports fears of a City move; Barcelona interest is also reported. No move is confirmed.
