Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Faces Attempted Murder Case
A case of attempted murder has been filed with Pallabi Police Station in Dhaka against Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam and four associates, after Obaidur Rahman, the lawmaker’s former driver, alleged he was assaulted and nearly strangled following objections to an alleged inappropriate relationship between the MP and Rahman’s niece. The FIR, supported by Rahman and a second driver, names Aminur Rahman (a cousin of Rahman), Masum Billah, Motasim Billah, and Rakibul Hasan as co-accused and alleges that the attackers acted on instruction after the MP’s threats and suspicions of leaked private videos. One of the accused, Aminur Rahman, was arrested and presented in court, with a magistrate ordering detention or remand and a probe deadline set for late August. The allegations describe a broader sequence involving a family dispute over the MP’s alleged relationship, blackmail over privately circulated videos, and the belief that Rahman had recorded or leaked material to media and others. Authorities have confirmed multiple charges and ongoing investigations, amid intense media attention surrounding the case.
