Rangers add Marco Gonzales, Wynns to bullpen
The Texas Rangers selected the contract of veteran left-hander Marco Gonzales and added catcher Austin Wynns to the major league roster, while transferring Jalen Beeks to the 60-day injured list to create space. The club also placed catcher Kyle Higashioka on the 10-day injured list and moved pitcher Jose Corniell to the 15-day IL, further adjusting their MLB bullpen and depth. Gonzales, a 34-year-old with extensive starting experience, could be in line for a rotation opportunity or long-relief role as the Rangers shuffle around their pitching staff. Wynns joined the Rangers from Round Rock as a reserve catcher, providing depth behind the plate. These moves come as Gonzales has spent time in the minors this season after signing a minor league deal and are part of the Rangers’ plan to stabilize a bullpen that has relied on rookie relievers. The changes also leave open the possibility that Cal Quantrill’s role in the rotation could shift depending on how Gonzales progresses in the majors.
