Pentagon watchdog report tallies Iran war damage and munitions shortages

A Pentagon inspector general report finds Iranian strikes damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings at U.S. bases across eight countries and more than 50 aircraft. Diplomatic facilities took about $184 million in damage, including an estimated $157 million at Iraq sites from more than 600 attacks. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told Congress in late July the war cost at least $37.5 billion. The report says the conflict "has resulted in strategic inventory shortfalls and revealed industrial base bottlenecks for munitions resupply." Central Command relocated personnel, equipment and depots. Medevac helicopters were withdrawn from Iraq and Kuwait, lengthening wounded transport. Resupply via Diego Garcia stretched to 14–18 days. Some 3,500 diplomatic personnel left the region. State put its costs at $113 million, nearly $80 million for contingency and evacuations, and said seeking reimbursement from roughly 9,000 evacuated citizens was impracticable. Military sales exceeded $44 billion, mostly to Saudi Arabia. mezha.net and India Today disagree on the start date, citing February 28 versus April 1 through June 30. President Trump has disputed some aircraft damage reports. No left-rated coverage appears in the record.
