Mexico Trial Awaits Friday Verdict in Surfer Killings

A judge in Baja California is expected to deliver a verdict in the trial of three men accused of killing Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend Carter Rhoad during a surfing trip in April 2024. Prosecutors and defense attorneys have presented closing arguments after a month of hearings; the men’s bodies were found in a well after the group was reported missing. Prosecutors allege the surfers were attacked in a robbery, and testimony included an account that one defendant approached their tent with a handgun. The victims’ relatives have attended or joined the proceedings, calling for the accused to be held accountable. The case drew attention to tourist safety in Mexico.
