LA28 study estimates up to $40.6 billion and 224,000 jobs

A study commissioned by LA28 estimates that the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games could generate $20.5 billion to $40.6 billion in economic output and support up to 224,000 jobs across five Southern California counties. The projected benefits include activity in construction, transportation, hospitality, security, administrative support, visitor services and local businesses. About $8.35 billion in related infrastructure spending has already been accelerated or undertaken for transportation, airports, mobility, accessibility and venue upgrades. The Games are expected to attract roughly 2 million visitors, whose spending could range from $1.6 billion to $4.3 billion in Los Angeles County, while the event could generate more than $5 billion in tax revenue. LA28’s no-build strategy relies largely on existing venues and temporary facilities, and officials say the investments could provide a lasting economic legacy, though the figures represent a range of potential outcomes rather than guaranteed results.
