InterDigital has secured another injunction from the Unified Patent Court against Disney for infringing a valid HEVC video-encoding patent, with the Düsseldorf Local Division ruling covering 11 EU countries. The decision, which can be appealed by Disney, marks the second UPC injunction InterDigital has obtained related to HEVC encoding technology. In addition to the HEVC case, InterDigital notes other actions by national courts elsewhere, including Brazilian courts, over related HDR and video-encoding technologies. The company emphasized its ongoing effort to ensure a fair return for its investments in video-encoding innovations as streaming services like Disney rely on high-quality encoding for premium viewing. Disney retains the right to challenge the ruling, while InterDigital continues pursuing licensing and potential compensation for its patented technologies. InterDigital’s filings also highlight a broader pattern of enforcement across multiple jurisdictions as it monetizes its wireless, video and AI innovations.
