Iain Armitage Addresses ‘Difficult’ Set Claims
An upcoming oral history of Young Sheldon revisits occasional tensions on set, including claims that child star Iain Armitage was sometimes difficult while leading the series. Co-star Annie Potts said he could be difficult but stressed that the demands placed on a nine-year-old expected to work and behave like an adult were challenging, adding that she had worked with adults who were worse. Armitage called starring in the show a privilege but a major undertaking for an eight-year-old, saying he did his best and that children are not perfect. Wallace Shawn recalled Armitage as energetic early on and said he became markedly more composed and well-mannered as the show progressed. The cast’s recollections describe a close but sometimes complicated workplace relationship, including the pressures of supporting its young stars.
