Cage Says He May Be Done With Amazon
Nicolas Cage told a New York Comic Con Spotlight panel on October 10, 2026, that he did not sign Amazon's AI waiver for Spider-Noir. He said Amazon is "a very AI-friendly company to the tune of 50 billion dollars invested in OpenAI," that he is "not an AI-friendly actor" and "not a member of their club," and that he is "probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that's okay." Amazon announced the show's cancellation last month after 11 Emmy nominations and 5 wins. Cage said he wants to work with Gen Z filmmakers who create "from scratch and by hand." On balancing jobs, he said necessity means feeding the family without too many movies back to back, and that he thinks he might do a season of True Detective. Season 5 is in production for HBO in 2027; only Cage has teased the casting. He is at work on Perish and will voice Peter Parker/Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (2027). Other listed upcoming films include Madden, Fortitude, Best Pancakes in the County, Lords of War and The Prince. No connection between the waiver dispute and the cancellation has been confirmed.
