Gibbs Shot Near Heart in NCIS Origins Season 3 Premiere
The NCIS: Origins Season 3 premiere aired October 6, 2026, opening with Mark Harmon's Gibbs shot near the heart by a sniper at his Alaska cabin while feeding his dog salmon. He uses a Marine breathing technique to fake death, hears shooters say "One down, one to go," stitches himself up, and leaves with his sniper rifle and dog. In voiceover he says, "Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in," and that Lala's story is now theirs, the final chapter still being written. The 10-episode season ties the attack to 1992, when young Gibbs (Austin Stowell) and Lala (Mariel Molino) hunt kidnappers who took agent Randy Randolf (Caleb Foote) for a computer of NCIS secrets. Randy is nearly burned alive. Disgraced former director Barrett (Toby Huss) killed his driver for the computer to sell to Russians; Barrett is arrested and the files recovered. Gibbs reads Lala's letter — "I trust you with my life, but not my heart" — and they reconcile. Showrunner David J. North calls Harmon "an enormous supporter of this show," says "Randy is a tough guy," and confirms Gibbs has left Alaska for the first time in six years for the lower 48. Harmon is expected in every episode as the wound and a second target drive the arc.
