Caleb Flynn Sentenced to Life Without Parole
Former “American Idol” contestant and Ohio pastor Caleb Flynn was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus mandatory prison terms for gun specifications, after a jury convicted him of aggravated murder and eight other charges in the February shooting death of his wife, Ashley. Prosecutors said Flynn shot her while she slept and staged their home to suggest a break-in; trial evidence included messages about killing her and data that challenged his claim that an intruder was responsible. Prosecutors also said he urged the couple’s two young daughters, who were home but unharmed, to lie to investigators, warning that their statements could determine whether he lived or died; the girls ultimately told authorities the truth. Prosecutors cited Flynn’s affair with church colleague Alleigha Botner as evidence of motive, and family members read emotional statements in court, including a statement from one daughter. Flynn continued to deny killing Ashley, apologized to her family for his affair and hurtful comments, wept at sentencing, and plans to appeal.
