Ken Urker, Ex-Fiancé of Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, Found Dead on Birthday

On Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, Dylan and his wife arrived at 107 Double H Drive, Lot 4, in Raceland, Louisiana, for dinner plans with Ken Urker. It was his birthday. They found him unresponsive inside the house.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard had texted Urker to wish him a happy birthday. The text went unanswered. Dylan, her brother, and his wife had come expecting to eat with him.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office received the emergency call. Deputies responded to the residence. Ken Urker was dead when they arrived.
The sheriff’s office statement named him Kenan Urker and gave his age as 34; other reports put the figure at 33 or 34. Coverage identified him as Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s ex-fiancé and the father of her young daughter. No official cause of death was released. The office said it was continuing the death investigation.
Blanchard believed Ken Urker died of an overdose. She did not know what substance he had taken, or whether it was intentional.
“I don’t know if it was intentional or not. I’m in disbelief. I can’t think. I’ve screamed until my throat burns,” she said.
Blanchard had entered public view through a case that began in June 2015, when her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, was killed in Springfield, Missouri. Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to ten years in prison. She was released on parole on December 28, 2023, after serving about eight and a half years. She had been born in Raceland, Louisiana, on July 27, 1991. The HBO documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest and a later scripted series carried the story to a national audience; after her release, her own reality series followed.
In 2017, Ken Urker watched Mommy Dead and Dearest and wrote Gypsy Rose Blanchard a letter of support while she was still in prison. She wrote him back. They began corresponding on a weekly basis and spoke for hours by phone. The letters and calls turned a long-distance connection into a close friendship and then a romance. He proposed to her during a prison visit in October 2018.
They separated the following year. Blanchard married Ryan Anderson in 2022 while she remained incarcerated. They stayed together for a short time after her release before the marriage ended in divorce in 2024. She and Urker rekindled soon afterward. In the first weekend of April 2024 he visited her for the first time after she had gotten out. They spent that weekend together. A month later they met up to attend a jazz festival. Shortly after that they realized they were going to have a baby.
Aurora Raina Urker was born on December 28, 2024. The date marked one year since Blanchard’s release from prison. The man who first reached her by letter after a documentary was now the father of her daughter.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard issued separate statements to TMZ and PEOPLE. She described Ken Urker as a devoted father and her soulmate.
“Ken was an amazing father and a man who was deeply loved,” she said. “He will forever be my soulmate and my red string, a connection that time, distance, and even death can never erase.”
“Above all, Ken loved our daughter, Aurora. She is a beautiful reflection of his enduring spirit, and through her, a part of him will always remain with us.” She said she would make sure Aurora grew up knowing how deeply her father loved her and who he was beyond what strangers on the internet chose to say about him.
Urker had endured an unimaginable level of public scrutiny and relentless cyberbullying on social media, Blanchard said. The cruelty directed toward him was something no human being should have to endure. “I believe the tremendous weight of that scrutiny and harassment had a profound impact on him, and I hope his passing serves as a reminder that there is a real person behind every screen, every headline, and every comment.”
In her statement to PEOPLE she said, “There are no words that can express the depth of this loss. I ask for privacy and compassion for our daughter, our families, and everyone grieving Ken during this incredibly painful time.” She added, “He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.”
On the evening of Oct. 1, Ken’s sister Autumn went live on TikTok. She confirmed her brother’s death. She shared his last words to her: “I love you.”
