Caleb Flynn Found Guilty of Wife’s Murder

Caleb Flynn, 40, was convicted Sept. 29 on all nine felony counts in the Feb. 16, 2026 shooting death of his wife Ashley, 37, in Tipp City, Ohio. Jurors found him guilty of aggravated murder, three murder counts, two felonious assault counts and three evidence-tampering counts after deliberating a little over two hours following eight days of testimony. Two misdemeanor intimidation counts were dismissed. The judge revoked his bond and set sentencing for Oct. 5, when he faces possible life without parole. Prosecutors said Flynn shot Ashley twice in the back of the head while she slept and staged a home invasion. Flynn told officers he was in his daughters' bedroom, heard gunfire, found her dead and noticed the garage side door open; prosecutors said a later claim that he had not been to the garage conflicted with that account. His gun, normally kept in his truck's center console, was never recovered after the console was found open. Alleigha Botner, 24, testified over two days about an 18-month affair begun when she was a church intern and explained an AI-generated song as it played; portions of about 100,000 messages were read, including Flynn writing he was "thinking of ways to kill her and not go to jail." Defense attorney Patrick Mulligan argued the state had not established Flynn was the killer, citing the missing weapon and limited forensic evidence. Prosecutor Paul Watkins then read the family's statement that the verdict brought justice and accountability but could not bring Ashley back or erase their pain.
