Eagles name DeVonta Smith top receiver but leave No. 2 spot open

DeVonta Smith is expected to become Philadelphia’s clear No. 1 receiver after A.J. Brown’s departure, but the Eagles plan to use a flexible rotation rather than immediately designate a permanent No. 2. Dontayvion Wicks has earned an expanded role and could start opposite Smith, while first-round pick Makai Lemon is expected to contribute from the slot or outside despite losing much of the offseason to a hamstring injury; Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore provide additional speed and experience. The receiver group remains a major question mark, with Wicks and Lemon facing pressure to replace the production of the former Smith-Brown pairing. Philadelphia’s interior offensive-line depth, previously viewed as a weakness, improved during camp through the emergence of Drew Kendall and Willie Lampkin, both of whom can play guard and center and have starter potential. Tank Bigsby is also positioned for a larger role behind Saquon Barkley after showing efficiency and late-season production, giving the Eagles potentially valuable depth at running back.
