Clemson Names Freshman Reynolds Starting Quarterback

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has named true freshman Tait Reynolds the Tigers’ starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, beginning with Saturday’s ACC opener against North Carolina. Reynolds replaced Christopher Vizzina during Clemson’s 22-7 win over Georgia Southern and impressed Swinney with his performance, while Vizzina is recovering from a non-throwing-arm injury and could miss one to two weeks. Swinney said Reynolds earned the job on performance rather than receiving a temporary opportunity, despite the freshman’s limited experience and lack of a touchdown pass through two games. Clemson will also welcome defensive lineman Vic Burley back from a two-game suspension, a timely return for a defensive line weakened by injuries and facing a North Carolina offense that could challenge the Tigers’ run defense.
