Chiefs Receiver Thornton Expected Out 12-16 Weeks
Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton dislocated his left ankle and tore ligaments late in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders and is scheduled for surgery this week. The injury came at the end of a 55-yard catch from Patrick Mahomes on a post pattern. Thornton was tackled by Raiders safety Treydan Stukes, stood briefly to celebrate the first down, then collapsed unable to use his left leg and was carted off. He finished with five catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns on eight targets and had 11 catches for 219 yards and two scores through four games. An Associated Press source speaking anonymously and Ian Rapoport both put the recovery at 12 to 16 weeks. Matt Zenitz of CBSSports.com reported a shorter 3-to-4-week estimate. NFL Network reported Thornton was in good spirits after the ankle was put back in place. Patrick Mahomes told CBS's Tracy Wolfson, "Just praying for him, You never want anyone to get injured and you're hoping it's better than it looked out there," and said he was "Praying for him and hopefully he comes back healthy." Under the longer timeline a late-season or playoff return remains possible depending on recovery from surgery.
