About The Pipe of Desire
The Pipe of Desire is a one-act opera by Frederick Shepherd Converse to a libretto by George Edward Barton. Written in 1906, it is remembered today, if at all, as the first English-language opera, and the first opera by an American composer, presented by the Metropolitan Opera, where it was first shown on March 18, 1910.
