Bel Ami is a 1947 Mexican historical drama film directed by Antonio Momplet and starring Armando Calvo, Gloria Marín and Andrea Palma. The film's sets were designed by the art director Edward Fitzgerald. It is an adaptation of the 1885 novel Bel Ami by Guy de Maupassant. It is also known by the alternative title El buen mozo.

Plot
Georges Duroy (Armando Calvo), an impoverished former military officer, arrives in late 19th-century society completely destitute but possesses a ruthless ambition to climb the social ladder. Through a chance encounter with a successful former comrade, Duroy secures an entry-level position as a journalist at a prominent political newspaper. Lacking genuine literary talent or journalism skills, Duroy quickly realizes that his most valuable assets are his handsome physical appearance and manipulative charm, earning him the affectionate high-society nickname "Bel Ami."
Duroy begins systematically seducing a series of highly influential, wealthy women to orchestrate his upward mobility. He enters into a passionate, volatile affair with Clotilde de Marelle (Gloria Marín), a spirited society woman who provides him with financial stability and introduction to elite social circles, despite his continuous updates of infidelity. To further cement his political influence, Duroy manipulates and marries Madeleine Forestier (Andrea Palma), the highly intelligent, politically connected widow of his former colleague, using her backroom knowledge to secure a prestigious editorial position.
As his greed grows, Duroy's corporate and romantic schemes turn increasingly predatory. He seduces Virginie Walter (Herminia de Mendiola), the deeply conservative wife of his wealthy newspaper publisher, solely to extract top-secret government financial information regarding regional investments. After amassing a personal fortune through corrupt stock trading, Duroy heartlessly discards Virginie and divorces Madeleine under a calculated entrapment scheme to isolate them from high society. The narrative reaches its cynical climax when Duroy successfully seduces and marries the publisher's young, naive heiress daughter, Suzanne Walter. Despite his extensive history of systemic blackmail, ruined lives, and emotional devastation, Duroy's calculated deceptions outmaneuver his rivals entirely, culminating in a grand societal wedding that cements his position as one of the most powerful, wealthy, and unpunished figures in the nation.
