About William B. Cushing
William Barker Cushing was an officer in the United States Navy, best known for sinking the CSS Albemarle during a nighttime raid on October 27, 1864, during the American Civil War, for which he received the Thanks of Congress. Accounts of the raid made Cushing famous in the United States and gave him the nickname Albemarle Cushing.
