About Hēni Materoa Carroll
Hēni Materoa Carroll, Lady Carroll, also known as Te Huinga, Hēni Kara, and Reiri Kara, was a New Zealand Māori leader, land administrator and philanthropist of Rongowhakaata and Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki. The daughter of the prominent rangatira Riperata Kahutia, she inherited a position of considerable mana in Tūranganui-a-Kiwa and became one of the most influential Māori women on the East Coast.
